4月23日 Ole, ole, o....*achoo*....leCanadiens 6 : Carolina 1 !!!
Not much else to say but WhoHoo!!!!
And on another note, if you are sick I highly recommend that you get some amazing people to bring you soup and comfort. Its the best cure... (and it helps to make that warm and fuzzy feeling) 4月15日 The Best the City had to OfferYesterday was my total day off. I wasn't even thinking about work. It was decided that I would spend the day with Friend and we set out early.
The day ran like a guide book tour. I forgot how amazing this city can be. Especially when it comes to food and drink. Yesterday, I put my 7 years of MTL experience to work and I went we spent the day getting the "best of" everything.
Best chocolate! Much inner debate on this one for me. But Friend and I discovered a new gourmet chocolate shop. Up until now my favourite has been Chocolantara on Mt Royal and Laval who sell chocolates flavoured with Khalua, orange, blue cheese, pesto, honey and salt and crunchy frog. (Only the last one is a joke, the other are surprizingly delicious) But now I may have a new favourite just a 1 minute walk north of my place. Same products, snootier service but possibly better chocolates.
Best Empanadas! Hands down this is one of my favourite places to grab a snack. Cheap eats, good eats and right next to the park so you can picnic! Get them heated with a bit of chili sauce, I could literally drink the stuff. Right on Clark and Marie-Anne, "La Chilenata".
Best Ice Cream! Everyone knows that this place exist but not everyone has been there. Yesterday, after a short stop in the very pretty Parc Outrement we headed to Bilboquet on Laurier and west of Ave Outremont for some ice cream. The line was out the door, but so worth the wait. I had the "Tire D'Erable" with actual chunks of tire in it. Soo Goood! The beauty of it was that the ice cream kept the tire frozen until it melted in your mouth. Mmmmm.
BEST HOT CHOCOLATE IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD!!! Suite 88 on St Denis. Go here, don't eat the chocolates, just get the hot chocolate. Get the "intense", the cayanne is also good but really spicy. It was so thick and rich I nearly die eating it. Death by chocolate is a real worry in this case.
Anyways, to sum up it was the best day and I would repeat it any time. 4月12日 Caffine headache? CAFFINE HEADACHE!!Yesterday I invigilated for 6 hours. Ugh... Sitting in a room with nothing to do but stare at students searching their brains for that piece of information they just can't find, cursing themselves for skipping that one class after a hard night of drinking, panicking and staring at exam papers in terror. Actually, it sounds fun, but in truth its not, its boring and hard work to stay awake. Add to that the thoughts that filled my head most were the facts that my apartment was in shambles and I haven't been to the pool in way too long. I was a bit stressed. So it was natural that I had a headache when I came out.
What was not natural was the severity of it. I felt like someone had cleeved my head in two and was poking aroung my brain with a spoon. I went home and every move I made to get there was torture. I ended the evening in bed wishing to God that a power outage would turn off all the lights in the city.
Normally a nights sleep would cure me but in the morning it was the same all over again. Until I had a cup of tea and it all went away. It was a caffine withdrawl headache. I couldn't believe it! Do I drink a lot of tea? Not really. I have a cup a day and less on the weekends. This is entirely unfair! There are 3-a-day coffee habits in the department and they get nothing. I'm a quaint and civilized tea drinker and I get caffine headaches! You don't see Earl Grey laying in bed moaning cause his tea delivery from China was a week late. Grrr..... And what makes it worse it that the only way to cure it is drink less tea. Never! How else is a ninja to relax after a hard day of death defying adventure?
Ho-hum, at least I don't have the headache anymore. 4月7日 The box is freaking me out man!My crazy office mate has a linux system and the default screen savers are really cool. Every day a new one pops up and they are usually nice and wholesome things like pretty pictures fading into other pretty pictures, a pong replay, or a little man juggling.
Well not today...
I look at crazy office mate's computer and type was appearing on the screen. "NCS Server unvailable. All work...NCS Server....ALL work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and No Play mAkeS Jack a dUll boY." and then it just kept typing "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy."
Those guys at linux are seriously twisted.
4月6日 I am the Exercise Queen! After an early morning warmup I headed to the pool and did 1 km in 20 minutes! Like a shark!
I'm improving!!!!
4月4日 Sick. Damn.Everytime something goes around I invariably get it. It didn't used to be like this. My immune system has totally dropped. Maybe I didn't eat enough dirt as a kid. Well, I'm not going to start that habit again so I'm just going to have to be a little under the weather this week. 4月3日 Yeah, so this blog isn't messed up at all...D'oh! I came in early to get a jump on my experiments and realized we were out of helium and the store didn't open until 10. So here I am blogging to kill time. (Actually, I checked my email and forwarded some funny sites I found on the weekend and am now blogging just for the hell of it. But I trust you, my 0.3 loyal reader, to keep a secret.
Here is my weekend in a nutshell... Saturday was a great day I hung out with a friend of mine who will now be named "Friend" and did the Montreal thing, i.e. shop and eat. I pushed my limits and actually went into the pet store, the one with the snakes that will now be named "Carriers of Satan's Soul". Yeah me for not being so freakishly afraid I almost cry when I pass a pet store, and I got to see the sleeping puppies, awwww....
Anyways, Saturday passes and Friend and I have plans to hang out with some of his friends to play board games. *Excuse me while I go and check out the burning smell in my lab....Yup, burning smell is definately there, I won't lie, I'm more than mildly concerned. Don't worry, I'll let cyberspace know if I hear any loud explosion like sounds....*
Sorry, now I'm decidedly distracted and can't finish the entry. So to sum up, I served lemon soup masquarading as a home made lemon meringue pie at a dinner get together and later the same night fell into an uncontrollable fit of the giggles when trying to play Balderdash (a game where everyone makes up a fake explaination of a word, date or movie and then try to guess the real one). But you try and keep a straight face when knowing the real plot of "Take it Big" is the story of the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz putting on a variety show to help save his dude ranch for bankruptcy. Its not easy I swear! |
